GETTING STARTED
Who can be a telepsychiatrist for my organization?
Psychiatrists & APRNs: Any psychiatrist (MD/DO) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with a state license in Connecticut can provide care via telepsychiatry.
How does reimbursement work for telepsychiatry in Connecticut?
Each telepsychiatry session generates a standard CPT code for outpatient psychiatric services.

Medicaid
Psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management services and MAT services may be rendered via telemedicine. Find out if you are eligible here.

Medicare
Behavioral health organizations are eligible for Medicare reimbursement in Connecticut if they are located in a HPSA (Health Professional Shortage Area). Find out if your organization is located in an HPSA here.

FQHCs
Medical and Behavioral Health Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are eligible to bill their encounter rate when an approved, medically necessary telemedicine service is rendered. FQHCs cannot bill their encounter rate when serving as an originating site only; meaning no other services were rendered to the member on that date of service outside of facilitating the telemedicine call by providing the space and technology. Learn more here.
What tech does my organization need?

Setting up telepsychiatry at your organization is simple. The set up will require:
- A two-way video telecommunication system that allows for real-time communication between the provider and patient
- HIPAA-compliant video conferencing technology
UTILIZATION & PROGRAM SUSTAINABILITY
Utilization is the percentage of a telepsychiatrist’s time that is spent on reimbursable patient care. Tracking this number helps organizations understand the financial sustainability of their telepsychiatry program.
